Physical Therapy programs

Postby terry christie » Sat Jan 24, 2009 5:28 am

Hi all, I’m a Physical Therapist conducting research into physical therapy interventions for Cerebral Palsy. It would help me greatly if you could answer any of the following questions.
1. Are there any particular physical therapy methods or techniques that you have found useful for managing your condition?
2. Could you describe how physical therapy has affected your quality of life?
Please feel free to provide as much information as you can.
Many thanks in advance,
Terry C, P.T.

How effective is physical therapy for the treatment of cerebral palsy? We have a cousin that suffers from cerebral palsy, and he isn't responding very well to his prescribed medication. If physical therapy would help improve his mobility, his mother would arrange weekly physical therapy sessions for him.

Physical therapy is very important and beneficial for individuals with CP. Physical therapy/rehabilitation can assist with gentle stretching, joint mobilisation, improved circulation, sensory stimulation, improved sleep, reduced risk of contractures, and improved well-being. Physical therapy can also relieve anxiety, tension, stress and frustration.

It would be wonderful for all individuals with CP to have physical therapy principles integrated into their daily routine, just like all individuals should do regular physical activity and movement.
